Founded in 2015, The New Blue Dress (TNBD) is a dedicated initiative under the Saamala Group, headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana. Inspired by the profound story of how a simple blue dress transformed an entire community, we work directly with government schools to provide high-quality, concept-based education and essential life skills.
Our volunteers and educators bring energy, empathy, and expertise into classrooms that are often under-resourced creating environments where every student feels seen, valued, and capable of achieving greatness.

The Story Behind the Name
Every great movement begins with a single act of kindness. Ours began with a blue dress.
"In 1909, on Gates Avenue in Cleveland, a young girl attended school in a dirty, worn-out dress. Noticing her potential, her teacherasked her to wash her face and gifted her a bright, beautiful new blue dress.
When the girl wore the dress home, her parents were so moved by her clean,beautiful appearance thatthey immediately cleanedtheir home. Inspired by their efforts, their neighbor repaired his fence and painted his house. Soon, the local minister campaignedfor city improvements — bringing running water, paved streets, and streetlights to Gates Avenue.

Since 1913, more than seven thousand towns and cities have organised campaigns for painting, repairing homes, and makingbetter lives for the people who live in them — all inspired by the story of Gates Avenue.
At TNBD, we believe that quality education and personal dignity are the "new blue dress" for today's government school students.By empowering one child, we can transform families, neighborhoods, and future generations. That is the ripple effect we arecommitted to creating — one classroom at a time.
